This dataset provides information on the number of individuals released between the years of 2011-2015 and the number of individuals re-incarcerated. Below are a couple of items to note about the dataset:
-
Recidivism is defined as a return to incarceration within three years of the formerly incarcerated individuals date of release from a state correctional institution
-
County Rates are determined based on the county of sentence.
By tracking recidivism of formerly incarcerated individuals, the Indiana Department of Correction (IDOC) can assess its re-entry programming to determine if those leaving IDOC facilities are properly prepared for life after incarceration. Breaking down the data by race allows the IDOC to measure if programs both inside its facilities and in the communities are sufficiently tailored to each groups' long-term needs.
The date range for the data is 2014-2018.
